The police authority in Bauchi State have arrested a house wife, identified as Aisha Abdullahi Gaide, for allegedly burning the private part of her eight year old step daughter with matches.
The Spokesman of the Bauchi State Police Command, DSP Ahmed Wakil, who disclosed this in a statement made available to NATIONAL ACCORD, explained that the suspect was angry at the little girl and decided to burn her private part with matches after severely beating her.
DSP Wakil, stated that the suspect was arrested and taken to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) for investigation.
The statement reads in part: “On 15th February, 2021 at about 6.00pm, the Secretary to the State Action Committee on Gender Based Violence (SGVB), one Mrs. Talatu Musa arrested and brought one Aisha Abdullahi Gaide of Kofar Durmi near Tudun Tarima Bauchi to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID)”.
“She complaint that on 14th February, 2021 at about 1.00pm, the aforementioned suspect, molested her step daughter identified as Zahra Abdullahi (8) of the same address”.
“Zahra had defecated on her clothes while sleeping and this provoked her step mother Aisha, who reacted by beating her with an electric wire”.
“After that, she lighted matches and put it on Zahra’s private part as a result, she sustained high degrees of injury on her private part and some parts of her body,” he said.
He said that on receipt of the case, a team of detectives was drafted and immediately took the victim to the hospital for emergency treatment.
According to him, the Command would soon carryout a “high level investigation” to ascertain the absolute fact of the case, after which the suspect would be charged to court for prosecution and possible conviction.
In a related development, The Police Spokesman said that a teenager and one other person were also arrested for allegedly raping a 16-year old mentally challenged girl in the state.
He said the suspects had conspired among themselves and forcefully took their victim to an uncompleted building where they had unlawful carnal knowledge of her.
During interrogation, he said, the suspects made voluntary confessional statements admitting to have committed the offence.
He said that the case has been transferred to the SCID for discreet investigation and prosecution, after which the suspects would be charged to court for prosecution.
Similarly, Wakil stated that on 3rd February, 2021 at about 5.30pm, one Prince Yohanna, a Staff of the National Identity Card registration in Tafawa Balewa Local Government Area of the state, reported to the Police that on same date at about 3.00pm, one Godiya Ishaku of the same address allegedly raped one Blessing (not real name) (18) of Dot village in Dass L.G.A.
He explained that induced the suspected induced the girl and took her to an uncompleted building and with a knife, inflicted injury on her hand and then raped her.
According to him, when the Police received the report, a team of Policemen was drafted to the scene and took the victim to the General Hospital Tafawa Balewa for medical examination.
He said that the suspect was later arrested while investigation is still in progress.
The Police Spokesman reiterated the Command’s determinatio and resolve to ensure that criminals have no hiding place in the State.
“It must be emphasized here that safety and security is not the sole responsibility of security agencies alone, hence members of the public are enjoined to play a vital role towards ensuring peace by availing the Police with useful information that will be instrumental to the unbundling of criminal acts and tendencies,” he pleaded.
