Nasarawa State Emergency Management Agency (NASEMA) has called on residents in the state to desist from disposing refuse and erecting structures on the waterways, to avoid flooding.
The Executive Secretary of the agency, Mr Zakaria Allumaga, gave the advice on Monday while inspecting areas affected by the July 28 flooding in Keffi.
Recalled that as a result of the flood, several houses were submereged and the Antou bridge in Keffi, was washed away on July 28 by flood following torrential rainfall in the area.
He said the purpose of the visit was to ascertain the level of destruction done to houses and properties in the area by the flood.
- “We are here to assess the level of destruction caused by flood and we will report to the state government what we have seen for necessary action.
“I want to advise residents against erecting structures on waterways. This is in their interest and for the overall development of the state,” he said.
The executive secretary also sympathised with the Keffi Emirates Council and the people over the unfortunate incident.
