The Minister of State for the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Hajia Ramatu Tijjan has urged Nigerians to shun violence and embrace peace to ensure peaceful co-existence in the country.
Hajia Tijjani made the call on Saturday at a Peace Summit organised by the Messengers of Peace Foundation in Abuja on Saturday.
The topic of the summit was “The Role of Gatekeepers in Peaceful Co-existence in Nigeria”.
The minister, represented by Hajia Aisha Baiyee, Associate and Head of Teamramatu, stressed the need for all Nigerians to embrace peace in the country.
“We all need peace, because without peace, there will be no co-existence and development. So, we pray for peaceful co-existence in the country.”
The National President of Messengers of Peace Foundation, Dr Sulaiman Adejor, said that the aim of the summit was to educate people on the importance maintaining peace at all times.
Adejor said that the foundation’s mandate was aimed at promoting peaceful co-existence irrespective of tribe, gender or religion among Nigerians.
According to him, the foundation has established a peace pageant known as Queen of Peace Nigeria to promote peaceful co-existence among the six geopolitical zones in Nigeria.
“The queen of peace international is responsible for promoting peace among Nigerians in the diaspora and all heads of missions to Nigeria. Queen Nigeria is in charge of all queens in Nigeria.
“The idea behind this foundation is to promote peace and shun violence to give everyone a platform to express each other’s ability for peaceful co-existence,” the foundation boss said.
He added that the foundation had also created the messengers of peace kids arm to assist children discover their God-given talents and nurture them to stardom.
“The messengers of peace kids was formed in 2014 and have been doing exceptionally well, they have performed at different events in Abuja and other state.
“The foundation has produced a peace messenger customised vehicle number plate. This number plate has been approved by the Federal Government and it is available to those who promote peace only,” he said.
