The Republic of Benin seeks to understudy Nigeria’s rice production to also ban the importation of the commodity in that country.
A delegation sent by President Patrice Talon of Benin Republic has met with the Chief of Staff to President Buhari and the Vice-Chairman, Presidential Food Security Council, who is also the Governor Kebbi State.
Briefing newsmen after the meeting, the Benineou Minister of Agriculture, Garston Cossi, said for five years now, Nigeria banned foreign rice through the seaport in Cotonou, which had ceased completely.
He described the move as a strong political will demonstrated by Nigeria to save foreign exchange and health of her citizens.
Earlier, the Vice-Chairman, Presidential Food Security Council and Governor of Kebbi State, Alhaji Atiku Bagudu, had said Nigeria would assist the Republic of Benin to explore and exploit her agricultural potential.
