Insecurity: Borno Governor wants FG to equip NSCDC to compliment military’s efforts

Borno state Governor, Professor Babagana Zulum, has appealed to the Federal Government to equip the Nigeria Security and Civil Defense Corp (NSCDC) in the state in order to compliment the efforts of the military in fighting Boko Haram insurgents and other crimes in the region.

Speaking at the ground breaking and foundation laying  ceremony of the Borno state headquarters of the  NSCDC in Maiduguri on Monday, Governor Zulum believed that modern  and sophisticated gadgets and equipment would help the Civil Defence to effectively compliment and assist the state government in restoring civil authority to  the liberated communities.

 He said “since the establishment of the NSCDC, it has been doing well in discharging it’s duties. In Borno state, the NSCDC has in the last 10 years been doing well in the fight against insurgency and other crimes in the  state.”

While assuring the Commandant-General of the NSCDC, Alhaji Abdullahi Gana Muhammadu of his  administration’s continued support, Governor Zulum urged him to consider the recruitment and deployment of more Borno indigenes into the service  to help in restoring civil authority in the state, as internally displaced persons (IDPs) return to their communities.

Also speaking at the occasion, the NSCDC Commandant-General thanked Governor Zulum “for graciously approving this expanse of land to build our permanent structure and also accepting to host the epoch making event.”

He said: ” I am delighted to be here today for the historic occasion of the Ground Breaking ceremony for the construction of the NSCDC Borno state command headquarters permanent site. 

“I am here today not only as the commandant General of the NSCDC one of the agencies fighting for the restoration of peace and security in Borrno state and Northeast in general but also as a friend of the  good people of Borno state.

“I am honoured to be part of this laudable project. This will go a long way in alleviating the accommodation problem, especially office space for  the a officers and men of the Corp. It is a moral booster for the Corp to have a permanent structure and thus is a second in the Northeast after Gombe.” 

He also commended Governor Zulum for his continued support for the Corp,  more especially the Agro Rangers which according to hum, is one of the most equipped and motivated units throughout the federation.

In his welcome address, the Borno state Commandant of the NSCDC , Alhaji Abdullahi Ibrahim thanked the Commandant General for his support, encouragement and special recognition, to the Borno state command and for providing funds for the construction of state headquarters of the Corp and Governor Zulum for his continued support. I o the agency, as well as other dignities for gracing the occasion.
