Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has revealed that the Lagos State University (LASU), University of Lagos (UNILAG), and University of Ilorin (UNILORIN) are the most preferred Nigerian universities for the 2025 admissions.
JAMB Registrar, Prof. Ishaq Oloyede, disclosed this on Tuesday in Abuja during the board’s 2025 policy meeting on admissions into tertiary institutions.
The meeting also discussed the 5th edition of National Tertiary Admissions Performance – Merit Award (NATAP-M).
Prof. Oloyede said these universities are the top choices for the 2025/2026 academic session, with over two million candidates sitting for the 2025 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME).

*“Top 10 Most Sought-After Universities”*
The top 10 most subscribed institutions according to the JAMN Registrar include:
1. Lagos State University (LASU) – 70,080 applicants
2. University of Lagos (UNILAG) – 58,645 applicants
3. University of Ilorin (UNILORIN) – 56,758 applicants
4. Federal University Oye-Ekiti (FUOYE) – 52,108 applicants
5. Nnamdi Azikiwe University (UNIZIK) – 51,487 applicants
6. University of Ibadan (UI) – 47,571 applicants
7. University of Nigeria, Nsukka (UNN) – 46,273 applicants
8. University of Benin (UNIBEN) – 45,868 applicants
9. Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU) – 45,777 applicants
10. Federal University, Lafia – 42,962 applicants
Notably, only LASU among the top 10 most sought-after universities is owned by a state government, while the other nine are federal government-owned institutions.
