PLAN International, Nigeria with funding support from the European Union has began a 5-day training for master trainers on Accelerating Basic Education Programme (ABEP) and Livelihood Opportunities for Children and Youths in Sokoto state.
The training objectives according to the Project Coordinator, Joseph Julius are geared towards ensuring access to quality, inclusive, gender and conflict sensitive education for the poorest, underserved, and most marginalized population groups including women, girls, youths and nomads in Sokoto, Kano and Jigawa states.
Joseph said the overall goal of the training the master trainers is to help meet up their mandate of increase access to safe, quality, and inclusive alternative/ accelerated education programmes (ABEP).
He said that a total of 324,000 young girls and boys comprising of 194,400 female, 129,600 males and 32,400 persons with disabilities (PwDs) will be supported to transit into formal or non-formal education using ABEP curriculum.
“And to achieve this mission, PLAN Int’l will therefore be supporting the training of a team of 10 master trainers (MTs) each from Kano, Jigawa and Sokoto states.
“These master trainers were nominated from Ministry of Education, State Agency for Mass Education, State Agency for Nomadic Education, State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB) and will be responsible for the training of ABEP facilitators and Government Education Officials at the state and LGA levels to ensure critical stakeholders develop the capacity to deliver and manage the learning programme for positive outcomes””.
Continuing, Joseph said, the Master Trainers’ capacities will be built on content knowledge delivery, context specific methodology, pedagogical, and social emotional learning skills.
This will therefore enable the Master Trainers to deliver ABEP based on best practices, implementation guidelines, and curriculum delivery methodology that promotes and unconformity with international child Safeguarding and Gender/Child Protection Policies.
Participants at the 5 day training of trainers programme include PLAN International Nigeria project team, consortium partners like the Save the Children International, DRDI, STCIas well as 10 Master Trainer which comprise 4 females and 6 males with focal persons from SUBEB, State Agency for Mass Education, State Agency for Nomadic Education as well as the Ministry of Education amongst others.
