Borno State Governor, Babagana Zulum has frowned at utterances made about marginalization, disunity and under development among Babur and Bura ethnic groups in Southern Borno .
Governor Zulum also condemned call made for promotion of ethnicity and religious dichotomy among the people of southern Borno, while distancing himself and his leadership from ethnic or tribal, communal, religious, developmental and political sentiments.
He stated this on Sunday during his speech at the 2023 Marama Community Development Association (MCDA) Annul Bura Culture Day held in Marama town of Hawul LGA of Borno state amidst mammoth crowd that converged from all walks of life.
He said the theme of the cultural day were apt and timely as his government since 2019 has tremendously improve on the living condition of the people and basic infrastructures that have been destroyed or vandalized .
He noted that: “His government has initiated and constructed as well as reconstructed schools, clinics, hospitals, drilled over 100 boreholes and connected several communities and facilities with sources of solar energy system along with street lights among others.
Governor Zulum, who could not hide his anger, expressed his bitterness over the issue of marginalization in the civil service against southern Borno civil servants which he denied.
He stressed that a lots of Southern Borno indigenes have benefitted from political and government or administrative appointments during his leadership which has never happened in the history of the state.
He added that presently his government has concentrated multi million capital projects in Biu town, Bayo, Shani, Hawul, Kwaya Kursa LGAs in the past three to four years while more are being constructed apart from the over N1 billion his government have disbursed traders associations as poverty alleviation interventions.
Zulum, however, pledged to support the Marama Community Development Association at all times to achieve its mandate.
While commending the organizers, sons and daughters of Marama Community, Governor Zulum noted that his government is an advocate of peace, unity, progress and development of the people across the state irrespective of ethnicity, religion, origin, socio economic and political background.

The Emir of Biu, HRH, Alh. Dr. Al-Mustapha Umar Mustapha II said the governor credibly performed and executed many projects and programmes in Biu Emirate in the past three to four months while stressing that, ‘we are indeed grateful and highly indebted to the governor which we would pay during the general elections “.
Earlier the Chairman of Marama Community Development Association (MCDA), Samuel Saleh Bwala appreciated the governor for fulfilling his numerous pledges to Marama Community which some are already fulfilled while others are ongoing and commissioned .
The chairman further paid special tribute to the governor for attending the Marama annual festival and numerous support and assistance rendered to the Marama community as well as appointments of patrons of MCDA, Hon. Inuwa Bwala as Hawul LGC Caretaker Transition Chairman (CRC) and Barrister Simon Malgwi as Head of Service (HOS) for the first time in history and later SA to the Governor on Land Administration Matters among others.

Senator Hassan acknowledged the redemption of the governor’s pledge on solar powered boreholes and overhead Gee Pee plastic tanks in three locations across Marama town with each borehole costing N1.5 million, installation of 20,000 liters tank at N5 mil;ion, Peri meter fencing at N1 million, plumbing and fetching points N1.5 million.
According to him, the festival has over the years provided the forum for us to interact, celebrate and to showcase our rich cultural heritage to the world and inculcate a sense of cultural solidarity among our people.as well accorded us the opportunity to expose our younger generation to the language and culture as means of communication and to the various aspects of our culture as a way of life”.
He added that the festival theme connotes a rendezvous for Bura people all over the world and not Marama only as the choice of this year’s theme ,’ effects of Alien Civilization on Bura Culture; as a twin narrative of last year’s theme; echoes of a dying culture”.
He however appealed to the state government to rehabilitate some local roads linking major agricultural and commercial areas to boost socio economic activities of the areas
