Former Minister of Transportation, Rotimi Amaechi
Former Minister of Transportation and two-term Rivers State governor, Rotimi Amaechi, has disclosed that leaders of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) coalition will fully back the party’s chosen presidential candidate for the 2027 general elections.
Speaking to journalists in Port Harcourt on Wednesday, July 23, 2025, Amaechi emphasized the coalition’s commitment to a transparent, fair, and credible primary process to select its flagbearer.
“We’ve agreed that whoever emerges from the primaries will have the full support of all coalition leaders,” Amaechi said, stressing the importance of an open and equitable selection process.
A former key figure in the All Progressives Congress (APC), Amaechi also condemned the widespread hardship and hunger plaguing Nigeria.
He urged Rivers State residents to join the ADC, register as members, and work to unseat the ruling APC in 2027.
“Every Rivers indigene who cares about the progress of our state and nation should rally behind the ADC to end the suffering caused by the current government,” he stated.
The ADC has emerged as a coalition platform aimed at challenging President Bola Tinubu’s re-election bid under the APC.
The coalition includes prominent figures such as former Vice President Atiku Abubakar and former Anambra State Governor Peter Obi, both of whom were runners-up in the 2023 presidential race
Other notable members include former Senate President David Mark, who serves as the coalition’s interim chairman, and former Kaduna State Governor Nasir El-Rufai, both of whom defected from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
During the coalition’s launch on July 2, 2025, Mark described the ADC as a movement to safeguard Nigeria’s democracy and prevent the country from sliding into a one-party state.
