Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has reported that 3,544,850 Nigerians have completed online pre-registration for the ongoing Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) within three weeks of its launch.
Additionally, 288,614 individuals have finalized their in-person registration in the two weeks since physical registration began.
INEC’s National Commissioner and Chairman of the Information and Voter Education Committee, Sam Olumekun, shared these figures in a statement released in Abuja on Monday.

“As of Sunday, September 7, a total of 3,544,850 Nigerians have pre-registered online since the exercise began on August 18,” he said, noting that 48.24% (1,709,933) are male and 51.76% (1,834,917) are female.
He further highlighted that “64.65% (2,291,809) of these registrants are aged 18–34, with 24.89% (882,441) being students.”
For physical registrations, which started on August 25, Olumekun reported, “As of September 4, 288,614 Nigerians have completed in-person registration, with 45.96% (132,634) male and 54.04% (155,980) female.” He added, “74.64% (215,414) of these are aged 18–34, and 39.55% (114,150) are students.”
Olumekun noted that detailed breakdowns of registrations by state, gender, age, occupation, and disability are available on INEC’s website and official platforms.
He expressed gratitude for the enthusiastic participation, stating, “We appreciate the positive response from citizens and organizations mobilizing civic engagement.”
However, he cautioned against illegal practices, emphasizing, “Voter registration is strictly for citizens aged 18 and older.
“Encouraging underage registration or registering those under 18 in anticipation of them reaching voting age by the 2027 general election is illegal.”
