Peter Obi was the 2023 Presidential candidate of the Labour Party (LP)
Lagos State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has urged Mr. Peter Obi, the 2023 Labour Party presidential candidate, to reconsider his political ambitions ahead of the 2027 elections.
In a statement released on Sunday in Lagos, the party’s spokesperson, Mr. Seye Oladejo, offered this advice while reacting to the Labour Party’s showing in the Anambra governorship election held on Saturday.
Oladejo said the results signaled a decline in grassroots support for both the Labour Party and the Obidient Movement, noting that even results from Obi’s polling unit revealed cracks in the foundation of his local political structure.
According to him, “social media popularity cannot replace consistent political organisation and voter engagement.”
Oladejo emphasized that the outcome of the Anambra election provided a clear lesson on the importance of political structure and consistent on-the-ground mobilisation.
He added that while President Bola Tinubu remained focused on governance and implementing reforms, opposition leaders should devote their energy to building capacity and reconnecting with the electorate.
The APC spokesman also stated that the party’s performance in Anambra reflected growing public confidence in its leadership, stressing that “good governance and effective delivery remain the strongest tools for political success.”
Oladejo commended the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) for conducting a peaceful and transparent poll and praised security agencies for ensuring order throughout the exercise.
He remarked that the outcome reaffirmed that electoral victories are achieved through strategy, performance, and consistent engagement with citizens.
Urging political actors to deepen their connection with the people, Oladejo said, “Leaders must learn from Anambra’s experience and focus on strengthening their grassroots presence.”
He reiterated that the APC was committed to service, national unity, and inclusive governance, adding that “performance and structure will continue to define Nigeria’s electoral outcomes.”
Oladejo congratulated party members and supporters in Anambra for their perseverance, noting that the Lagos APC shared in the optimism of a stronger democratic process.
He called on all political parties to uphold peace during campaigns and to prioritise issue-based politics over personal attacks, saying democracy thrives when politicians respect the will of the people.
Oladejo concluded by reaffirming that the APC’s mission remained to deliver good governance, promote development, and sustain citizens’ trust across all levels of government.
