Ogun State Police Command has uncovered and dismantled an alleged baby factory operating in Mowe, rescuing two heavily pregnant women and four children during an intelligence-led operation that also led to the arrest of six suspects.
The operation, carried out by operatives of the Mowe Police Division on August 24, 2026, targeted a building on Toluwalase Street in Abaren Village, via Gbarinmole, following sustained intelligence on alleged human trafficking and illegal adoption activities.
Police spokesperson, ASP Oluborode Opeyemi, who disclosed the development in a statement on Tuesday, said the raid formed part of the Command’s sustained efforts to combat human trafficking and child exploitation across Ogun State.
According to the statement, six suspects were arrested during the operation. They were identified as Florence Glory Ogbona, 58; Magdalene Julius, 63; Chidike Egwuonwu, 40; Onyechu Chidike, 35; Stephen Ogbona, 39; and an attending nurse, Oseni Kusamotu Idaya.
The police said two pregnant women were rescued from the facility. They were identified as 23-year-old Ilesanmi Foluke, who is seven months pregnant, and 20-year-old Ejekwa Melody, who is eight months pregnant.
Officers also recovered four children—two boys and two girls—from the premises.
The Command further revealed that follow-up investigations led detectives to a hospital within the Mowe area, where another victim, Blessing Bright Effiong, 26, had delivered a baby boy on August 20.
However, investigators discovered that while the mother was still receiving medical care, the newborn could not be accounted for.
The police said the attending nurse was subsequently arrested as investigations intensified to determine the baby’s whereabouts and unravel the circumstances surrounding the child’s disappearance.
The statement added that the case has been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), Eleweran, Abeokuta, for further investigation.
According to the police, detectives are working to establish the full scope of the alleged trafficking network, locate the missing newborn and ensure that everyone found culpable is brought to justice.
Commending the officers involved in the operation, the Commissioner of Police in Ogun State, CP Bode Ojajuni, praised the Mowe Division operatives for their swift response and professionalism.
He reaffirmed the Command’s commitment to tackling human trafficking, child trading and other violent crimes in the state.
The police commissioner also urged residents to remain vigilant and continue providing timely and credible information that could assist security agencies in preventing crime, assuring the public that the Command would sustain intelligence-driven policing to protect lives and property.
The Ogun State Police Command encouraged members of the public to report suspicious movements or activities through its emergency channels as investigations into the case continue.
