Late NLC General Secretary, Emmanuel Ugboaja
The death of Nigerian Labour Congress (NLC) General Secretary, Emmanuel Ugboaja, has left a big void in the labour movement, the Managing Director and Chief Executive of the Nigeria Social Insurance Trust Fund (NSITF), Oluwaseun Faleye, has said.
Faleye, in a condolence message on Friday in Abuja, said Ugboaja was more than a senior union official, describing him as a strong advocate for workers’ rights and a dependable voice in the struggle for better welfare and social justice.
He said the late labour leader stood firmly for the dignity of workers and brought passion, conviction and professionalism to his years of service.
“As the General Secretary of the NLC, Comrade Emmanuel Ugboaja stood firm for the rights and dignity of labour. He was a bridge-builder, a voice of reason, and a dependable partner in the pursuit of protection for all workers,” Faleye said.
The NSITF boss also paid tribute to Ugboaja’s professional career as a lawyer and administrator, saying his contributions to the welfare of Nigerian workers would be sorely missed.
Faleye said Ugboaja’s commitment to the labour cause had earned him a place in the history of the movement, adding that his advocacy and integrity would remain part of his legacy.
He extended his condolences to NLC President, Joe Ajaero, the leadership and members of the congress, Ugboaja’s family and the wider labour movement.
“On behalf of the Board, Management and Staff of NSITF, we commiserate with the NLC President, Comrade Joe Ajaero and his team, the family he has left behind, and the entire labour movement.
“May the Almighty grant his soul eternal rest, and grant the family the fortitude to bear this irreparable loss,” Faleye added.
