Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke has ordered a Coroner’s Inquest and Panel of Inquiry into the killings, shootings, injuries and violence that occurred at Naira and Kobo Junction and the Motor Park/Garage area of Ikire, Osun State, on August 24, 2026.
The governor announced the decision in a statement shared on his official X account on Saturday, saying the move was aimed at uncovering the circumstances surrounding the deadly incident and ensuring justice for the victims.
According to Adeleke, the panel will be chaired by Magistrate Ayokunle Shiyanbola, while Mr. Abiodun Badiora will serve as Secretary.
Other members include retired Assistant Inspector-General of Police, AIG (Dr.) Aderanti C. Kayode, mni; Mr. Dele Akintayo; a representative of the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA); Comrade Wale Balogun representing Civil Society Organisations; a community representative from Ikire; and Dr. Babatunde Afolabi, who will serve as the Medical and Forensic Representative.
The governor said the panel has been mandated to determine the circumstances and causes of the violence, examine the roles played by security agencies and other individuals, identify anyone whose actions or inaction contributed to the incident, and recommend prosecution, disciplinary measures, compensation for victims and institutional reforms where necessary.
Reaffirming his administration’s commitment to justice, Adeleke declared that nobody found culpable would be protected.
“I assure the people of Ikire, the families of the deceased, the injured and the entire people of Osun State that no person found culpable will be shielded from justice, irrespective of status, office, political connection or institutional affiliation.”
