Abia State Governor, Alex Otti has reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to advancing the welfare and economic empowerment of women, describing them as indispensable partners in the development of Abia State.
The governor made the declaration on Saturday while addressing participants at the grand finale of the 2026 Abia Women August Delegates Conference (AWADEC) in Umuahia, where he joined women from across the state in celebrating their contributions to society.
Speaking at the event, Otti praised the resilience, courage and commitment of Abia women, noting that their roles in strengthening families and communities remain critical to the state’s development agenda.
“They are, indeed, the bedrock of the family and vital partners in building the New Abia. Their courage and commitment continue to shape our homes, communities, and State,” the governor said.
He assured the women that his administration would continue to implement policies and programmes designed to enhance their social and economic well-being.
“Our government will always prioritize women’s empowerment, giving them the right tools and opportunities to thrive. Together, we will raise children who succeed, build stronger families, and secure brighter futures,” Otti stated.
The governor also commended his wife, Mrs. Priscilla Chidinma Otti, for her sustained efforts in supporting vulnerable women through various intervention programmes.
According to him, her initiatives, including housing support, business empowerment schemes and the Safe Tent Care programme, have positively impacted the lives of many women across the state.
“I commend my dear wife, Mrs. Priscilla Chidinma Otti, for her tireless work in supporting vulnerable women through housing, business initiatives, and the Safe Tent Care programme. Her vision reminds us that women are not just beneficiaries of development, but architects of it,” he said.
Addressing women across the state, the governor encouraged them to remain focused, embrace emerging opportunities and continue to play leadership roles in their communities.
“To every Abia woman: remain resolute, embrace opportunities, and continue to lead with courage. The New Abia is stronger because of you,” Otti added.
The 2026 Abia Women August Delegates Conference brought together women leaders, stakeholders and delegates from across the state to celebrate the achievements of women and promote greater participation in governance, economic development and community building.
