Defence Headquarters (DHQ) has announced that troops deployed across different theatres of operation rescued 36 abducted victims and neutralised several terrorists, including two notorious kingpins, during coordinated military operations carried out nationwide.
The Director of Defence Media Operations, Maj.-Gen. Michael Onoja, disclosed the development in a statement issued on Saturday, detailing military successes recorded between August 31 and September 3.
According to the statement, troops operating in Borno State eliminated a terrorist on September 1 after responding to an improvised explosive device (IED) detonation along the Miyanti–Banki Junction main supply route in Bama Local Government Area.
The military said a rifle, ammunition and an IED initiator were recovered from the scene.
In a separate operation at Lamusuri Crossing Point in Gujba Local Government Area of Yobe State, another terrorist was killed during a gun battle, while troops recovered a rifle and ammunition.
The DHQ also revealed that soldiers intercepted a fleeing terrorist around Sabsawa in Bama on August 31 after he reportedly escaped from a terrorist camp because of hunger and harsh living conditions.
Similarly, security forces arrested a suspect in Konduga who was allegedly transporting food supplies to a terrorist enclave in Bama.
Onoja further disclosed that troops apprehended a suspected former terrorist fighter who had allegedly become an informant during an operation in Damasak, Mobbar Local Government Area, on September 1.
The statement added that 21 women and children surrendered to troops in Mafa and Dikwa on September 2 following violent clashes between rival terrorist factions.
Troops also intercepted another terrorist escapee near Amuda Bridge in Gwoza, while a suspected terrorist spy was arrested along the Kauwa-Kukawa Road.
Providing updates on operations under Operation FANSAN YAMMA, Onoja said troops maintained pressure on terrorists and kidnapping gangs across Kaduna, Katsina, Kebbi, Sokoto and Zamfara states.
He disclosed that troops raided suspected terrorist hideouts at Kogo in Matazu Local Government Area of Katsina State on August 31, where two terrorist kingpins were neutralised and another sustained gunshot wounds.
The Defence Headquarters said troops remain committed to sustaining ongoing offensives against terrorist groups and criminal elements to improve security across the country.
