Taraba State Governor, Agbu Kefas
Taraba State Governor Agbu Kefas, has been honoured with the 2026 Democracy Heroes Award Africa by the Face of Democracy Nigeria Project (FDNP).
The award was presented at the 15th Democracy Heroes Award Africa ceremony held at the Congress Hall of the Transcorp Hilton Hotel, Abuja.
The annual event recognises individuals whose leadership and contributions have strengthened democracy, public service and national development. Kefas was among several political leaders honoured for his contributions to governance and development.
Director of Media and Strategic Communication, Kefas Campaign Council 2027, Hon. Emmanuel Bello, said the award reflects growing recognition of the governor’s efforts to reposition Taraba State through people-oriented policies, institutional reforms and development programmes.

He said Governor Kefas has focused on improving security, education, healthcare, youth empowerment, agriculture, infrastructure and the welfare of civil servants since assuming office in May 2023.
Bello said the administration has made education a major priority because of its importance to human capital development and economic growth.
He added that the government is also working to improve healthcare services, create opportunities for young people and provide a better environment for businesses to thrive.
According to him, the administration’s focus on agriculture and economic development is aimed at unlocking Taraba’s potential in food production, agro-processing and tourism to create jobs and improve livelihoods.
He described the award as a recognition of the responsibilities that come with public leadership and an encouragement to sustain the administration’s development agenda. Bello added that it also offers an opportunity to reflect on the progress already made and the work still required to achieve the government’s long-term objectives.
