ADC Presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar
Africa Democratic Congress (ADC), raised concerns over reported personnel changes in key INEC departments, particularly Electoral Operations and Information and Communication Technology (ICT).
In a statement issued on Sunday by its National Publicity Secretary, Bolaji Abdullahi, the party alleged that some officers from northern states had been transferred from strategic positions and replaced by officials from Lagos and other South-West states.
The party called on INEC Chairman, Professor Joash Amupitan, to publish details of the affected postings, explain the criteria used for the redeployments and clarify the reasons behind the changes.
The ADC said it was not making a definitive allegation of wrongdoing but insisted that concerns about possible regional imbalance in sensitive departments required a clear and evidence-based response from the commission.
According to the party, transparency over personnel decisions is essential to demonstrating that election administration will remain impartial and free from political or sectional influence.
The demands come as political parties and other stakeholders focus attention on preparations for the 2027 general elections.
The production, custody and distribution of sensitive electoral materials are central to election security, while the impartiality of officials responsible for election operations and technology is critical to public trust.
The controversy has therefore renewed calls for INEC to communicate its procurement decisions and administrative procedures clearly, allowing stakeholders to assess the integrity of its preparations.
