Real Madrid have received a boost ahead of Sunday’s La Liga clash with Sevilla, with Brazilian defender Éder Militao returning to the squad after six months out with injury.
Militao has been named in the squad for the game, his first call-up since undergoing surgery in April.
The defender’s latest injury came on April 21 during Real Madrid’s match against Alavés, when he suffered damage to the hamstring tendon in his left leg. He underwent surgery a week later and began a long recovery that kept him out of action for months.
His absence left Madrid without one of their key central defenders for a crucial stretch of the season. Militão had already endured a difficult period with injuries, having suffered a serious knee injury in August 2023 and another ACL injury in November 2024.
He returned to group training on September 28, raising hopes that he was nearing a comeback. His inclusion against Sevilla is the next step, although it remains to be seen whether he will get any minutes on the pitch.
For Madrid, having Militão back gives the team another option at the heart of defence as the fixtures begin to pile up. With the Champions League and El Clásico against Barcelona approaching, his return could prove important if he can regain full fitness without further setbacks.
After months of rehabilitation, the immediate task is to get him back playing regularly. Sunday’s game offers the first chance to see how close he is to making that happen.
