Nigeria’s U-17 Women’s National Team, the Flamingos, have qualified for the semi-finals of the 2026 FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup after defeating Venezuela 1-0 in Morocco.
Captain Azeezat Oduntan scored the winning goal from the penalty spot in the 89th minute after Oluebube Umejiaku was fouled inside the penalty area at the Mohammed VI Football Academy in Salé.
The victory was Nigeria’s fourth in the tournament, setting a new national record for the country’s highest number of wins in a single edition of the FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup.
The Flamingos will now face Brazil in Wednesday’s semi-final as they aim to reach the final for the first time in the competition’s history.
Reacting to the victory, the National Sports Commission (NSC) congratulated the players and coaching crew for their impressive performance.
“Congratulations to the players and technical crew. Nigeria stands behind you,” the Commission wrote in a post on its verified X handle on Monday.
The latest triumph has further boosted Nigeria’s hopes of winning its first-ever FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup title.
