The Man O’ War of Nigeria, a paramilitary group in the country, has urged state and the Federal governments to reinstitute the group in schools across the country.
Mr Onyema Idoko, the National Patron of South East Command of the paramilitary group made the call in Enugu on Thursday when he led its executive members on a courtesy visit to the state governor, Chief Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi.
The group was received by the Secretary to the State Government, Prof. Simon Ortuanya in his office.
According to the national patron, Man O’ War Nigeria is a voluntary youth organisation under the control and supervision of citizenship and leadership training centre.
He said that it was a Parastatal under the the Federal Ministry of Youths Development as empowered by Decree No 38 of Dec. 1989 section 7 (b) but regretted that it had been neglected over the years.
Idoko said that the group would help to ensure that schools observed the COVID-19 protocols and institute discipline into students.
According to him, Man O’ War is a paramilitary group with the responsibility of offering members of the society a free service.
”It articulates and provides support base to enlighten and prepare Nigerians for patriotic duties and arouse public sentiment towards Nigerian flag and other symbols.
”He said that Man O’ War had 10 units in the state and one Area Command in each of the three senatorial zones of the state.
Responding, Prof. Ortuanya, the SSG, assured the group that its demands would be tabled before the governor.
He thanked the national patron of the group and noted that the nation needed the service of the group at a time like this.
”Man O’ War is a group that teaches people the qualities of leadership and one responsibility of government is to train and empower the youths.”Without discipline, training, empowering and engaging the youths meaningfully, the country is doomed.
”Enugu State Government will continue to promote good leadership and empowerment of the youths.
”On my own, I will communicate with the governor especially on the reinstitution of Man O’ War in schools, ” Ortuanya said. (NAN)
