The Borno State Council Chairman of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), Comrade Bulama Abiso has appealed to Governor Babagana Umara Zulum as a matter of urgency to implement promotional benefits for the state civil servants which has become over due for long.
He also urged the governor to pay leave grants of workers at both the state and LGC levels despite the efforts of the state government in payments of outstanding salaries and pensions of workers.
The NLC Chairman, who made the appeal Monday during the 2021 NLC Women Committee Quadrennial Delegate Confidence held at the NLC State Secretariat Maiduguri, further, appealed to the Verification Committee carrying out screening of LGCs staff to expedite efforts to enable the state and local governments pay salaries and allowances of the LGCs workers.
Comrade Abiso also enjoined the committee to pay salaries of those screened and cleared as well as at the Local Edinburgh Authority (LEA) level.
The Borno NLC chairman, however, commended th state government for providing N12 billion to pay outstanding grants of workers from 2016 to 2019 as well as setting aside N100 million monthly to service payments of gratuities of workers.
He said the state government has further earmarked N50 million monthly to be splitted into two for the payments of arrears of salaries and pensions monthly, while noting that these are parts of the achievements of the NLC which the Women Committee has played a great role.
The State Chairman disclosed also that the women Committee of the NLC has been a strong pillar to the labour union and supported activities of the union as well has been part of the successes of the leadership of the NLC In the state including services and supports to the IDPs, less privilege and the most vulnerable in the society.
On his part, The Borno State Chairman of the TUC, Comrade Babayo Ahmad also appealed to the state government to pay annual leave of workers which is a major issue before the labour union in the state, while urging Women Committee of the NLC to be up and doing as well embrace unity and stability.
He also commended the returning officer and the credentials committee for successfully conducting a successful election in the state.
