PATRICK ABANG, Calabar –
Organized labour in Cross State are ready for a show down with the state government over non implementation of promotion arrears of its workers.
The Nigerian Labour Congress (NLC), and the Trade Union Congress (TUC) in consultations with the State Joint Public Negotiation Council JNC, are commencing a state wide industrial action on Tuesday to press home their 14 points demands.
In a statement issued by the labour unions on Monday in calabar, said all state and local government workers are asked to “Down tools to press home our demands”
“Dear comrades, whereas an enlarged Congress of organized labour, meet on Wednesday 6th October, 2021 at Nigerian Civil service Union NCSU Secretariat, deliberate on the many issues, troubling the workers of Cross River State; whereas the Congress, after extensive deliberation, resolved that all the workers in the state and local government should down tools to press home our grievances. Workers are hereby called upon to stay at home, from Tuesday 12th October, 2021. Comrades stay at home until you hear from us.” The labour unions said.
Recall that in Their October 7th 2021 Congress, the workers summed up a total of 14 point demands, including implementation of promotions to both state and local government workers, none’ remittance of deductions from workers salaries.
Others are the implementation of minimum wage to both state and local government workers, none implementation of full 27.5% teachers enhancement allowance, stoppage of tax exemption and allowance for teachers, payment of hazard allowances for medical and health workers, inclusion of all staff employed but not yet patrolled by the state, amongst other demands.
