In a bold step to bolster its outreach across the nation, the Church of Nigeria (Anglican Communion) has approved the establishment of 15 additional dioceses, pushing the overall count to 176.
The church’s Communication Officer, Korede Akintunde, shared the news in a statement released Thursday from Abuja.
He detailed that the batch comprises five fully established dioceses alongside 10 missionary ones, aimed at deepening spiritual presence in underserved areas.
Among the full-fledged dioceses are Ekiti South, Kalabari, Lagos South West, Omoku, and Ozoro.
The missionary dioceses, meanwhile, encompass Eket, Idanre, Ikom, Keffi, Nasarawa, Ogoja, Oyo South, Oyun, Takum, and Zuru.
Akintunde clarified that the Standing Committee of the General Synod granted the approval on behalf of the full synod, strictly following the Church of Nigeria’s Constitution and Canons.
He assured followers that “The processes for election of Bishops, consecration, inauguration, and enthronement will be announced in due course.”
This expansion signals the Anglican body’s commitment to growth amid Nigeria’s diverse landscape, fostering closer ties between faith communities and local needs.
