Bauchi indigenes in UK donate over 256 medical equipment, consumables to state govt

ARMSTRONG ALLAHMAGANI, Bauchi 

No fewer than 256 different categories of Hospital equipment and medical consumables worth millions of Naira have been donated to the Bauchi State government by its indigenes residing in the United Kingdom.

The items are for distribution to General Hospitals across the state.

Bauchi State Governor, Senator Bala Mohammed, who received the equipment at the Banquet Hall of the Government House, on Wednesday, said the gesture will go along way in assisting the state government to ensure improvement in the healthcare delivery. 

He said he will summon a Health Summit so as to tackle the gaps and leakages in an effort to ensure better performance in the area of health.

The Governor tasked citizens of the state irrespective of their religious or political differences to contribute positively to the growth and development of the state. 

He said: “We wish to acknowledge with thanks the delivery of these items from our sons and daughters in the United Kingdom who earlier pledged to support my administration with medical consumables, we are grateful on behalf of the Government and people of Bauchi state for this solidarity to the good people of the state.

“You have shown that you are good ambassadors of Bauchi state. These professionals have identified with us in our Bauchi project, we are grateful to them.”

Mohammed therefore directed the Secretary to the State Government alongside the Commissioner for Health to ensure credible distribution and use of the equipments. 

He directed the SSG to chair a committee with all the Chief Medical Directors of General Hospitals in the state to discuss and distribute the items equitably.

The Special Adviser to the Governor on Multilateral Organisations, Professor Sani Malami presented the equipment to Governor Bala Mohammed on behalf of the association.

He said members of the Association of Bauchi state indigenes residing in the UK have agreed to support the state government in improving the healthcare services to the citizens. 

“Your Excellency, because of the restriction of movement in line with COVID-19 protocols, the Association led by Dr. Dahiru Garkuwa asked me to present the items to you on their behalf,” he said.
