Kano State Governor Abba Yusuf
With millions of children in northern Nigeria out of school due to economic challenges, the Kano State Government has taken a bold step to enhance access to education by approving ₦1.1 billion for free school uniforms for primary one pupils.
A statement by the governor’s media aide, Sunusi Dawakin-Tofa, said this initiative aims to boost enrollment, improve retention, and promote equal opportunities for all children.
“Education is a right, not a privilege,” Dawakin-Tofa declared, emphasizing the government’s dedication to easing financial burdens on families.
He said the provision of free uniforms is designed to attract out-of-school children to classrooms, forming a key part of Kano’s broader education reform strategy.
“This move supports our vision to transform education and ensure every child has a chance to succeed,” he added.
By removing a significant barrier to schooling, the program aligns with ongoing efforts to enhance educational infrastructure and teaching quality across the state.
