BY ANKELI EMMANUEL, Sokoto –
Ahead of the 2023 general election, one of the presidential aspirants of the ruling All Progressive Congress (APC) Senator Rochas Okorocha has advised Nigerians to be vigilant and also mindful of who they collectively entrust their future into his hands as the next president.
Senator Okorocha stated this during his condolence visit to the Sultan of Sokoto and President General, Nigerian Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs (NSCIA) Muhammad Sa’ad Abubakar 111 over the death of Hassan Danbaba, (Magajin Garin Sokoto) and grandson of late Sir Ahmadu Bello, Premier of Northern Nigeria.
The lawmaker noted that the death of Magajin Gari was a great loss to humanity.
Senator Okorocha, a philanthropist and former Imo State governor, who is also a title holder (Danjikan Sokoto) in the Caliphate, said the late Magajin Gari while alive, was a man of honour, an ally and very patriotic individual who believes in the unity of this country.
“Magajin Gari is one person who always imagine and pray for when Nigeria will come to its greatness, devoid of the insecurities, poverty and hunger. But unfortunately, Magajin Gari left this world without seeing his imagination coming to fruition. His death was a great loss indeed.
“I pray that God should help those of us alive to see this great and better Nigeria where there will be no more insecurity, hunger, killings and where unity, progress and love will lead”. He said.
While urging the people to emulate the life of Magajin Gari who as a Muslim, kingmaker from the Caliphate and northern but have friends across the length and breadth of Nigeria, Rochas appealed to all to learn how to build bridges of peace, unity and love across the board.
Speaking on 2023 elections, Rochas admonishes Nigerians to be very careful and consider diverse qualities and track records which such an aspirant must have accomplished even before 50 years.
“Such a person must also have track records that he believes in the unity of this country and should in addition, be able to show us what he has done in the past to unite this country. This is the only way we can build the Nigeria of our dreams and aspirations.
“And to achieve this, it therefore means that Nigerians should be wise as we approach 2023. Let us not vote for a regional interest leader. Let us all stop believing those that will come and give us promises of what they can do or want to do after being elected.
“Let’s be able to tell them that, whatever you are promising now, you ought to have had visible evidences of those promises across the length and breadth of this country even before reaching this point if truly you mean well for the country now that we are praying for a new Nigeria were unity, progress and love will reign unhindered”.
