Cross River State Governor, Bassey Otu
By PATRICK ABANG, Calabar –
Senator Stephen Odey has lauded Governor Bassey Otu for the remarkable academic achievement of Cross River students, who recorded a 76.69% pass rate in the recent West African Examinations Council (WAEC) results, the highest in the state in recent years.
Over 30,000 students contributed to this milestone, reflecting the administration’s commitment to educational excellence.
Odey also praised the establishment of the University of Education and Entrepreneurship under Otu’s leadership, a strategic move to address the state’s manpower needs and foster sustainable development.
“This administration is laying a solid foundation for the future,” Odey said during a recent address in Calabar.
At a Stewardship Dinner celebrating Governor Otu’s two years in office, Andrea Ekeng Inyang, Chairman of the Forum of Special Assistants, highlighted the governor’s transformative impact. Speaking to a gathering of aides and guests, Inyang noted that Otu inherited a state in disrepair but has revitalized it through pragmatic governance.
“Governor Otu isn’t chasing glamour. His focus is on completing critical projects to eliminate waste,” Inyang stated.
Among Otu’s achievements, Inyang listed the refurbishment of over 40 projects, with more than half being uncompleted or abandoned initiatives inherited from previous administrations. A flagship effort includes the establishment of Operation Okwok, a community-based security initiative that has restored trust and calm to Cross River’s streets.
“Two years ago, the state was in a dilapidated condition,” Inyang remarked. “Today, thanks to Governor Otu’s visionary leadership, we see progress in education, infrastructure, and security.”
