Former Senate President, David Mark
By EZEKIEL OBI, Abuja-
Former Senate President David Mark has officially resigned from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), citing deepening divisions, persistent leadership crisis, and irreconcilable differences that have reduced the party to a shadow of its former self.
In a letter dated June 27, Mark announced his decision to leave the PDP and join the National Coalition of Political Opposition Movement in Nigeria.
“I bring warm greetings to you and members of the PDP, Otukpo Ward 1, and by extension, to the entire Benue State and Nigeria. I write to formally inform you of my decision to resign my membership of the party with immediate effect,” Mark stated.
He expressed his disappointment with the party’s current state, saying, “Recent events marked by deepening divisions, persistent leadership crisis, and irreconcilable differences have reduced the party to a shadow of its former self, subjecting it to public ridicule.”
*Joining the Opposition Coalition*
Mark revealed that after extensive consultations with family, friends, and political associates, he resolved to join the National Coalition of Political Opposition Movement in Nigeria.
This move is part of a collective effort to rescue the nation and preserve its hard-earned democracy.
Mark has been appointed as the interim National Chairman of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), a party adopted by the opposition coalition. Former Governor of Osun State, Rauf Aregbesola, has been appointed as the interim National Secretary.
*A New Chapter*
Mark’s resignation from the PDP marks a significant shift in Nigeria’s political landscape.
His new role in the ADC is expected to play a crucial part in the opposition’s strategy for the 2027 general election.
The ADC has emerged as a key opposition party, with prominent figures like Atiku Abubakar, Peter Obi, and Rotimi Amaechi part of the coalition.
