Force Commander of the ECOWAS Stabilisation Support Mission in Guinea-Bissau (ESSMGB), Brigadier General Danjuma Dantani, has urged Ghanaian troops serving with Ghana Company 5 (GHANCOY 5) to remain alert, disciplined and ready to respond to their responsibilities under the regional peace mission.
Dantani gave the charge on Wednesday, August 19, 2026, when he visited the GHANCOY 5 headquarters in Bissau as part of his tour of camps housing contingents under the mission.
During the visit, the Force Commander praised the level of readiness he found among the Ghanaian troops and said it reflected the professionalism and discipline expected of personnel serving under ESSMGB.
He asked the troops to continue following operational instructions and work closely as a team, stressing that the mission’s objectives could only be achieved when all personnel remained focused on their respective responsibilities.
Dantani also commended the Combat Team Commander, Lieutenant Colonel Leonard Kweku Danful, for his efforts since taking charge of the company and congratulated officers who had recently been promoted.
Before addressing the troops, Danful received the Force Commander and briefed him on the company’s pre-deployment training, administration, operations and logistics. He also updated him on ongoing training activities aimed at keeping the troops prepared for their mission.
The visit is significant as the ESSMGB continues to build the capacity and readiness of its multinational contingents in Guinea-Bissau. For troops operating under a regional mandate, sustained training, discipline and coordination remain important to ensuring they can respond effectively when called upon.
Dantani’s engagement with GHANCOY 5 also forms part of his wider effort to keep commanders and personnel across the mission focused on the task ahead and prepared to carry out the responsibilities assigned to them by ECOWAS.
