Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN), Taraba State Chapter, has praised Governor Agbu Kefas for what it described as his commitment to promoting peace, expanding access to free education, empowering young people, and delivering critical infrastructure across the state.
The commendation was contained in a 13-paragraph communiqué issued at the conclusion of the association’s three-day Ministers’ Conference held in Jalingo from August 18 to 21, 2026.
The conference, themed “The Church and the State: Partners in God’s Plan in a Changing World,” attracted Christian leaders, government officials, traditional rulers, gospel ministers, stakeholders and members of the Christian community from across Taraba State and beyond.
Participants engaged in teachings, discussions, prayers and presentations delivered by notable speakers, including Governor Agbu Kefas; former Cross River State Governor, Chief Donald Duke; former CAN National President, Pastor Ayo Oritsejafor; former CAN Vice President, Rev. Caleb Alima; Archbishop Benjamin Kwashi; Rev. Fr. William P. Awoshiri; and Bishop Innocent R. Solomon, among others.
In the communiqué, the association emphasized the need for sustained collaboration between the Church and government to advance peace, justice, good governance and sustainable development.
“After extensive deliberations, the Conference resolved that, the Church and the State must continue to collaborate closely for the promotion of peace, justice, good governance, and sustainable development.”
CAN also urged Christian leaders to continue promoting values that strengthen society while encouraging governments to recognize faith-based organisations as vital partners in national development.
“Christian leaders should actively encourage moral values, integrity, and responsible citizenship among their members and government at all levels should continue to engage faith-based organizations as critical partners in community development and nation building.”
The association further called for greater religious harmony, stressing the importance of fostering unity among people of different faiths.
“CAN therefore call for religious tolerance, mutual respect, and peaceful coexistence among all faiths to be promoted and strengthened across Taraba State and Nigeria at large.”
The communiqué reaffirmed the association’s commitment to supporting initiatives that promote peaceful coexistence, moral leadership and inclusive development across Taraba State and the country.
