APC National Chairman, , Prof. Nentawe Yilwatda
National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Prof. Nentawe Yilwatda, has said the economic reforms introduced by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu are laying a solid foundation for long-term growth and positioning Nigeria to achieve a $1 trillion economy by 2030.
Yilwatda made the remarks after representing President Tinubu at the second edition of the Asiwaju Scorecard Series/Asiwaju Policy Roundtable, where he delivered the President’s message on the administration’s economic direction and future plans.
According to him, President Tinubu appreciated the opportunity to engage Nigerians on the country’s economic journey and reaffirmed the administration’s commitment to transforming the economy through sustained reforms.
He said the government has already begun to record measurable progress following what he described as difficult but necessary policy decisions.
“I conveyed Mr President’s warm greetings and appreciation for the opportunity to engage Nigerians on the critical task of moving our nation from economic uncertainty to stability, from stability to growth, and from growth to prosperity.”
Yilwatda noted that the administration has recorded improvements in external reserves, non-oil revenue generation, trade performance, economic growth and inflation.
“I highlighted the progress recorded since the difficult but necessary reforms of the Tinubu administration, including stronger external reserves, increased non-oil revenue, improved trade performance, sustained GDP growth and a significant moderation in inflation.”
He added that while those achievements are encouraging, the government views macroeconomic stability as a starting point rather than the final objective.
> “These gains demonstrate that the foundations are being strengthened, even as we recognise that macroeconomic stability is not the destination, but the foundation for cheaper food, more jobs, affordable credit, reliable power and stronger purchasing power.”
The APC chairman also stressed that President Tinubu’s target of building a $1 trillion economy by 2030 goes beyond an economic projection and represents a national development agenda.
“President Tinubu’s $1 trillion economy by 2030 is not merely a number; it is a national mission to build a more productive, competitive and prosperous Nigeria.”
He explained that achieving the target would require coordinated investments in highways, rail networks, deep-sea ports, energy infrastructure and digital connectivity to improve the movement of goods and services across the country and beyond.
Yilwatda said the administration’s proposed five-port maritime strategy, backed by major road and rail projects, has the potential to position Nigeria as a leading logistics and industrial hub for West and Central Africa.
He added that industrial parks, agro-processing zones, manufacturing clusters, logistics hubs and the Ajaokuta-Kaduna-Kano (AKK) gas pipeline would play important roles in driving production, creating jobs, boosting exports and attracting investment.
The APC chairman also emphasised the need for greater investment in education, digital skills, vocational training and responsible access to finance for young Nigerians.
Looking ahead to the 2027 general elections, Yilwatda urged Nigerians to support policies that would sustain economic reforms and national development.
> “As we approach 2027, the choice before Nigerians is clear: progress or retreat; productivity or stagnation; investment or isolation. Under President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, the foundation has been laid and the work has begun. Our task now is to move from reform to results, from results to growth, from growth to prosperity, and from prosperity to a $1 trillion economy.”
He maintained that the administration remains focused on translating ongoing reforms into tangible economic benefits for Nigerians while pursuing its long-term development agenda.
