Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) presidential candidate, Peter Obi, has reaffirmed his political partnership with the party’s vice presidential candidate, Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, describing it as a united effort to rescue Nigeria from what he called years of ineffective leadership.
Obi made the remarks on Tuesday in a post shared on his official X account after receiving Kwankwaso and several NDC candidates at the Obidient Headquarters in Abuja.
According to Obi, the meeting was attended by the party’s governorship, senatorial and other candidates drawn from different states of the federation.
He said the discussions centred on strengthening the party’s grassroots presence and ensuring its message reaches more Nigerians, particularly those in rural communities.
“Yesterday, I had the pleasure of hosting my dear elder brother and our vice presidential candidate, His Excellency, Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, alongside the gubernatorial, senatorial, and other candidates of our great party, the Nigerian Democratic Congress (NDC), from various states across the country, at the Obidient Headquarters in Abuja.”
Obi added that the meeting focused on building the party’s structures ahead of future political engagements.
“Our discussions focused primarily on strategies to expand and deepen the reach of our party and take our message of national redemption to rural communities and the hinterlands.”
The former Anambra State governor also pledged continued support for the party’s candidates across the country, saying he remains committed to working closely with them to secure electoral victories.
“I reassured our candidates of my continued support in their respective states and constituencies. I also reaffirmed my commitment to working with them and undertaking the necessary groundwork to secure victory for our party.”
Speaking on his alliance with Kwankwaso, Obi said their collaboration was driven by a shared determination to address Nigeria’s challenges and provide purposeful leadership.
“My partnership with His Excellency Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso is a partnership to rescue Nigeria from the calamitous and ineffective leadership that has brought our country to its present condition.”
He outlined the priorities of the alliance, including poverty reduction, improving education, supporting small and medium-sized enterprises, strengthening security, promoting national unity and transforming Nigeria into a productive economy.
“Our commitment is to commence lifting vulnerable Nigerians out of poverty, reduce the number of out-of-school children, support small and medium-sized businesses, secure our nation, unite our people, and move Nigeria from consumption to production.”
Obi ended the message with his familiar campaign slogan, expressing optimism about the country’s future.
“A New Nigeria is POssible, and Nigeria will be OK.”
