Enzo Fernandez is following Enzo Maresca to Manchester City.
City have agreed a deal with Chelsea worth more than £125m. Chelsea approved the sale today after a long negotiation.
Fernandez told Chelsea he only wanted City. He will now have his medical before signing.
This is the second time the two Enzos work together. They did it first at Chelsea last season, and it worked.
Under Maresca in 2024/25, Fernandez had his best season at Chelsea. He made 42 appearances, with 7 goals and 13 assists. Across all competitions he finished on 9 goals and 14 assists in 47 games. That was 20 goal contributions, already well ahead of his 11 from the year before.
Maresca pushed him higher up the pitch and told him to get into scoring positions. The result: his key passes per game doubled from 1.1 to 2.2, and inside Chelsea he was named the most improved player under Maresca. 6ae1fdca
The consequence now is clear. City get a midfielder who already knows Maresca’s system – the possession structure, the rotations, the demand to arrive late in the box. Chelsea lose that, and they lose it to a rival, while banking a club-record sale.
For Maresca and Fernandez, the storyline is simple. They built something at Chelsea. Now they get to continue it at City, with higher stakes and a bigger budget.
