Nasarawa State Governor, Abdullahi Sule on Wednesday inaugurated the newly completed 14-kilometre Garin Magaji–Gittarana rural road and a N2.2 billion bridge in Silame Local Government Area of Sokoto State.
Speaking during the commissioning ceremony, Sule described the projects as critical infrastructure that would improve the lives of rural residents, particularly farmers, while urging governors across the country to emulate the development initiatives of Sokoto State Governor, Ahmed Aliyu.
According to him, the scale of infrastructure projects being executed by the Sokoto State Government reflects purposeful leadership and a clear commitment to development.
“Let me tell the people of Sokoto that you are very lucky, very lucky, very lucky to have a man of this mindset to be your governor.
“All the work he has done with humility, with pure hard work, with respect are to the benefit of the people of the state,” Sule said.
The Nasarawa governor noted that both Sokoto and Nasarawa are predominantly agrarian states, stressing that investments in rural roads and bridges would improve access to markets, reduce transportation challenges and boost agricultural productivity.
He said the projects align with President Bola Tinubu’s vision of improving the welfare of rural communities through impactful governance.
“The President wants us to make sure we make impact, especially at the rural communities. Sokoto, just like Nasarawa, is an agrarian state.
“You have a lot of farmers here. Most of these farmers have difficulties,” he added.
Sule also disclosed that he chose to attend the commissioning despite another official engagement in Kaduna, describing his visit as a reflection of the mutual respect and cordial relationship between him and Governor Aliyu.
He commended the Sokoto governor for delivering projects that, in his words, have made the people of the state and President Tinubu proud.
“I thank you for making your own and our brother Governor Aliyu proud and I thank you for making the people of Sokoto proud and I thank you for making our President Bola Ahmed Tinubu proud,” he stated.
Earlier, Governor Ahmed Aliyu described the completion of the road and bridge as another milestone in his administration’s commitment to delivering infrastructure that directly benefits the people.
He said the projects would improve transportation, facilitate economic activities and enhance connectivity across the state.
“This road will undoubtedly ease traffic congestion, reduce travel time, enhance safety, and promote commercial activities within the area and beyond.
“It will also contribute significantly to the socio-economic development of the surrounding communities and strengthen connectivity across the state,” Aliyu said.
The governor commended the Ministry of Works, led by the Deputy Governor, as well as the contractor handling the project, for ensuring its successful completion.
He also urged residents of the benefiting communities to take ownership of the infrastructure by protecting it from vandalism, while thanking them for their patience, understanding and support throughout the construction period.
The event was attended by top government officials from Nasarawa and Sokoto states, including representatives of the Nasarawa State APC leadership, members of the State Working Committee, the Secretary to the State Government, the Head of Service, the Chief of Staff, the Chairman of Silame Local Government Council, and other dignitaries.
