The Kaduna State governorship candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Rt. Hon. Shehu Usman Bawa, popularly known as ABG, has pledged to tackle insecurity and the hardship confronting residents of the state through people-oriented policies, equitable distribution of resources and a needs-based budget.
Bawa said his proposed administration would prioritise the security and welfare of citizens, insisting that governance must be driven by the actual needs of the people rather than decisions imposed from the top.
He also promised to ensure fair distribution of resources across Kaduna State’s three senatorial zones, irrespective of their political, ethnic or religious differences.
The PDP candidate made the pledges during a town hall meeting with party stakeholders in Zone One, held in Zaria over the weekend.
According to a statement issued on Sunday by his spokesperson, Yusuf Idris, Bawa spoke alongside his running mate, Hon. Amos Adamu Gandu, and assured residents that their administration would adopt a bottom-up approach to governance.
Under the proposed arrangement, he explained, communities would have the opportunity to identify their pressing needs and determine development priorities, while the government would ensure that budget preparation and implementation reflected those demands.
The statement said the meeting attracted religious leaders, student groups, women and youth organisations, Community Development Associations, PDP state and local government officials, as well as the party’s candidates contesting various elective positions.
Bawa, while soliciting the support of residents, promised that a PDP-led government would be founded on fairness, accountability, transparency and respect for the rule of law.
He said his administration would pursue policies that directly address the concerns of ordinary citizens and ensure that the benefits of governance reached communities across the state.
The PDP governorship candidate’s remarks come amid growing public concerns over insecurity, economic hardship and the need for inclusive development across Kaduna State.
Also speaking at the meeting, the PDP Zonal Chairman, Alhaji Danbaba SayaSaya, urged the party’s candidates to intensify grassroots mobilisation and take their manifestos directly to the electorate.
SayaSaya expressed optimism about the party’s prospects, saying there was a light at the end of the tunnel for the PDP as it prepared for the 2027 general elections.
The state chairman of the party, Chief Edward Percy Masha, cautioned residents against making political choices without carefully examining the records and policy proposals of those seeking their votes.
Masha urged the electorate to reflect on the differences between the PDP and other political parties, particularly in the areas of democratic governance and the delivery of dividends of democracy.
In their separate remarks, representatives of religious groups, students, community development associations, women and youth organisations expressed support for Bawa’s candidacy.
The groups also expressed satisfaction with the PDP candidate’s manifesto and indicated their readiness to support his ambition ahead of the 2027 governorship election.
