Edo State Governor, Monday Okpebholo
Edo State Governor, Monday Okpebholo has praised many young people in Edo State who publicly renounced cultism and embraced a peaceful way of life.
The governor described the development as a major step towards building a safer and more united Edo State.
In a message shared on Monday, Okpebholo said he witnessed what he called a powerful declaration of peace as the youths openly rejected cult-related violence.
“I commend these young men for their courage in turning away from violence. Your decision is a victory for your families, our communities and the future of Edo State,” he said.
The governor urged other young people still involved in cult activities to learn from the example and choose a better future.
“We are all brothers, and no cult group is worth killing your brother over. We must choose life, peace and progress over violence and bloodshed,” Okpebholo stated.
He also appealed to those still hiding to surrender and embrace rehabilitation.
“My message to those still in hiding is clear: come out, renounce cultism and embrace a new beginning while you still have the opportunity. Our doors remain open to genuine rehabilitation, but anyone who chooses to continue on the path of criminality will face the full wrath of the law,” he said.
The governor reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to protecting lives and creating opportunities for young people across the state.
“We are determined to build an Edo State where our young people become agents of development, not instruments of destruction. Let us renounce violence, embrace peace and build a New Edo together! A New Edo has Risen,” he added.
Cult-related clashes have remained a major security concern in parts of Edo State over the years, leading to loss of lives and property. The latest public renunciation by the youths is expected to strengthen ongoing efforts by the state government and security agencies to restore peace, reduce crime and encourage youth development.
