The General Officer Commanding (GOC), 1 Division Nigerian Army, Major General Abubakar Sadique Muhammad Wase, has charged troops to justify the Federal Government’s recent salary increase through renewed dedication, professionalism and improved performance in their duties.
Wase gave the charge on Wednesday while addressing troops of the 171 Battalion in Daura, Katsina State.
In a statement issued on Wednesday, 28 October 2026, by the Deputy Director, Army Public Relations, 1 Division Nigerian Army, Colonel Abubakar Abdullahi, the GOC said the pay rise reflected the Federal Government’s appreciation of the sacrifices and selfless service of military personnel.
He urged the troops to redouble their efforts in the discharge of their responsibilities, stressing that improved remuneration should be matched with greater commitment to national security.
According to him, the principle that “to whom much is given, much is expected” should guide their conduct and service to the nation.
Wase also charged the troops to remain vigilant and prioritise the protection of their lives, civilians and military equipment entrusted to their care.
He reaffirmed the division’s commitment to addressing the administrative and logistical challenges facing personnel, particularly those deployed in operational areas.
The GOC said efforts were ongoing to ensure that troops received the necessary support to enhance operational efficiency and enable them to carry out their assignments effectively.
He also addressed members of the Nigerian Army Soldiers’ Wives Association (NASWA), describing them as indispensable pillars of support for military personnel.
Wase commended the women for their endurance and contributions to the well-being of their families, urging them to remain steadfast in supporting and encouraging their husbands.
He noted that a stable and supportive home environment was essential to boosting soldiers’ morale and improving their operational effectiveness.
