Plateau State Governor, Caleb Mutfwang, has announced plans to deploy at least 800 trained forest guards to strengthen security in vulnerable communities, while working towards the return of internally displaced persons (IDPs) to their ancestral homes.
Mutfwang disclosed this on Monday during the inauguration of the All Progressives Congress (APC) Campaign Council for the 2027 general elections at the Government House, Rayfield, Jos.
He said the state government expected to commission another batch of retrained Operation Rainbow personnel and deploy the forest guards in the coming weeks as part of efforts to improve security across the state.
The Governor acknowledged that insecurity remained a major challenge confronting Plateau but maintained that his administration was pursuing deliberate and sustained measures to protect lives and property.
According to him, addressing the security situation requires coordinated efforts, professional expertise and patience rather than simplistic promises.
He said the government remained committed to restoring peace across the state and creating conditions that would enable displaced residents to return safely to their communities.
Mutfwang urged residents to remain patient and support ongoing security efforts, particularly as the government works towards facilitating the return of IDPs to their ancestral homes.
The security commitment comes amid continuing concerns over attacks on communities and displacement in parts of Plateau State, where several residents have been unable to return to their homes.
Beyond security, the Governor used the occasion to defend his administration’s record and appeal for renewed support ahead of the 2027 elections, arguing that his government needed another term to consolidate ongoing projects and programmes.
“There is no government that ends everything. Every government is a relay. Our duty is not to make others look bad; it is to see how we can collectively make Plateau State look better,” he said.
He also urged members of the campaign council to communicate the administration’s achievements to residents across the state.
The APC Campaign Council is expected to coordinate mobilisation for the re-election of President Bola Tinubu, Vice President Kashim Shettima, Governor Mutfwang, Deputy Governor Ngo Josephine Piyo and other party candidates in the 2027 general elections.
Earlier, the Director-General of the Mutfwang/Piyo 2027 Governorship Campaign Council, Sir Joseph Ari, said the campaign had received expressions of support from 115 support groups, alongside solidarity visits from traditional rulers, religious leaders, women, youths and other organised groups.
Ari pledged that the campaign would be factual, issue-based and peaceful, while calling on party members to work collectively towards securing victory in the elections.
The Plateau State APC Chairman, Rufus Bature, also urged members of the campaign council to strengthen the party’s structures at the grassroots and remain committed to their responsibilities.
