Brighton continued their impressive Premier League campaign on Sunday by climbing to second place after defeating 10-man Brentford 2-0, while Liverpool boosted their top-four hopes with victory over Crystal Palace and Sunderland stunned Chelsea.
Brighton took control at the Amex Stadium after Diego Gomez fired home a stunning long-range strike in the 15th minute to hand the Seagulls an early advantage.
The hosts doubled their lead shortly before half-time when Pascal Gross converted from the penalty spot after Brentford conceded a spot-kick.
The victory moved Brighton above Manchester City into second place, continuing their remarkable start to the campaign.
At Selhurst Park, Liverpool defeated Crystal Palace 3-1 through goals from Alexis Mac Allister, Florian Wirtz and Alexander Isak, with Eddie Nketiah scoring a late consolation from the penalty spot for the struggling hosts.
The result pushed Liverpool into fourth place while increasing pressure on Palace manager Pierre Sage, whose side remain bottom of the table.
Meanwhile, Sunderland produced one of the biggest surprises of the weekend by defeating Chelsea 1-0 through Enzo Le Fee’s first-half penalty, ending their wait for a Premier League victory since August.
The three results reshaped the upper half of the Premier League table ahead of the international break, with Brighton emerging as Arsenal’s closest challengers, Liverpool returning to winning ways and Chelsea suffering a damaging defeat.
