ARMSTRONG ALLAHMAGANI, Bauchi –
The Speaker of the Bauchi State House of Assembly, Abubakar Suleiman, has stated that many problems like civil war, ethnic and religious crises, insurgency, banditry and kidnapping, have slowed down Nigeria’s growth and development.
Suleiman who is also the Chairman of the Conference of Speakers of State Legislatures of Nigeria, stated this in a message to congratulate the people of Bauchi State and Nigerians in the country’s 61st Independence Anniversary.
In a statement signed and made available to journalists by his Spokesperson, Abdul Burra, he said that Nigeria must look back to the struggles and sacrifices made by the founding fathers in order to find solutions to the many problems bedeviling the country.
The Speaker explained that Nigeria’s nationalists sacrificed their lives for the country, fought for the country’s independence and charted a promising development map for the country.
He said: “However, along the line of our growth, the country is bedevilled with so many problems like civil war, ethnic and religious crises, insurgency, banditry and kidnapping, which slowed down our growth and development.
“We must look back and reflect on the path the nationalists put our Country before and after the independence. We must imbibe their spirit of patriotism, selflessness and sacrifice.
“We don’t have any country but Nigeria, therefore we must do everything possible to ensure it attains the highest level of development, stability, unity and peace.” The Speaker advocates.
Suleiman further stated that despite the challenges, Nigeria’s independence has brought a lot of blessings especially in infrastructural development, agriculture, human resources, economy and many sectors of human endeavour.
He commended the Bauchi state Governor, Senator Bala Mohammad, for the unprecedented transformation he embarked upon in the State which has given the State a new look.
He assured the people that the Assembly will continue working hand in hand with the executive arm to take development to all nooks and crannies of the state.
