Nigerian Navy has added forensic investigation and security management to the professional skills of its personnel, with 80 officers and ratings graduating from a specialised training programme in Makurdi, Benue State.
The two-week programme, held at the Nigerian Navy Provost and Regulating School, was organised by Naval Headquarters in partnership with the International Institute of Professional Security.
The participants were trained in forensic investigation, evidence handling and security management, giving them skills that go beyond the Navy’s conventional maritime responsibilities.
The 80 personnel received Professional Diplomas in Forensic Investigation and Security Management at a graduation and induction ceremony held at the school.
They were also inducted as members of the International Institute of Professional Security, with badges formally pinned on them.
The training comes as security operations increasingly demand more than responding to incidents.
Personnel involved in such operations may also have to establish what happened, handle evidence properly and support investigations capable of standing up to professional scrutiny.
For the Navy, the additional skills provide another layer of capacity as its personnel take on security responsibilities that can overlap with criminal investigation and evidence management.
The graduation therefore represents more than another batch of certificates.
It puts specialised investigative and security management skills in the hands of 80 naval personnel as the service continues to prepare its workforce for the changing demands of national security.
