No fewer than three people have been killed by gunmen who attacked Yadagungume and Limi villages in Burra District of Ningi Local Government Area of Bauchi State.
One person also sustained varying degrees of injuries in the attack.
NATIONAL ACCORD learnt that those killed are: Shuaibu Salihu (17), Ruwa Ali also known as Mai Inji (45) and Sunusi Isah Burra.
A source who pleaded anonymity told our correspondent that the gunmen first attacked Yadagungume at about 12am on Wednesday and started shooting sporadically causing panic to the villagers who were already asleep before they later attacked Limi village.
The source said: “the gunmen whose number is yet to be known, first attacked Yadagungume with sporadic gunshots and a boy came out and shouted, so they shot him. They abducted two people and somehow, one of them escaped but they shot him.
“We don’t know what happened, they later shot the other person they went with. It was some women who were going to the farm early this morning that saw his corpse and raised the alarm.
“They later attack Limi village and killed one person there before leaving. We don’t know what exactly is their mission because they didn’t burn any house and they didn’t kidnap people except those two who they later killed. One person was left with gunshot wounds and is being treated in the hospital.
“All the people killed were buried this morning in accordance with Islamic rites.”
Meanwhile, The Bauchi State Police Command has confirmed the incident to journalists.
Speaking in a telephone interview with journalists, the Command’s Public Relations Officer, Ahmed Wakil, a Superintendent of Police, however, said that the incident happened at about 2am.
“We received the news of an incident of kidnapping which was reported today, 11th May, 2022 at about 5.30am. It was reported at our Yadagungume outstation and it was transferred to Burra Divisional Headquarters.
“The incident happened around 02.00hours. Some unknown gunmen invaded Yadagungume village shot these following two persons: one Shuaibu Sani, 25 years and one Ruwa Ali, 35 years, all males, living in Limi village via Sama Ward, while one Yusuf Sani, 30 years old of Yadagungume sustained bullet wounds on his body and was rushed to General Hospital Ningi, he is presently on admission receiving treatment.
“One Shuaibu Bala, a 26 year old of the same Yadagungume village was abducted and was whisked out to an unknown destination by the unknown gunmen.
“The Command received a distress call like I told you earlier and the DPO of Burra Division led a team of Policemen and went to the scene of the crime where 13 empty shells of AK-47 were recovered there. Presently, the suspects are still at large.
“Two bodies were taken to a hospital in Yadagungume for medical examination where they were certified dead by a medical doctor and their remains were released to their families for proper burial.
“One of the victims I mentioned above that was kidnapped, was later found with a bullet wound on his body. He was taken to the hospital, we are still waiting for his medical report,” the police spokesman said.
Wakil said that the Commissioner of Police, Bauchi State, Umar Mamman Sanda, has directed the Area Commander and the Divisional Police Officer, Burra Division to intensify all efforts towards arresting the perpetrators of the dastardly act so that they can be made to face the full wrath of the law.
He said the Commissioner of police reiterated that, in keeping with the mandate of maintenance of law and order and ensuring the safety and well-being of the citizens at a times, a special operation is to be mounted in order to protect the citizens especially during the rainy season.
He said: “A coordinated patrol and surveillance would be carried out in all strategic locations not in Ningi or Burra alone but across the whole state to ensure that criminal elements are apprehended and demobilized without any collateral damages to the citizens.
“In view of this, the Commissioner of Police, is requesting the citizens to be vigilant and promptly report any suspicious movement or attitude within the location of the nearby Police station. Therefore, the Force will not be deterred from dealing with any criminal element that tries to test its capacity to provide effective security to the citizens at this time and all times.”
