Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU), Federal University of Agriculture, Zuru (FUAZ) branch, has commenced a two-week warning strike following the expiration of a 21-day ultimatum issued to the university council over the alleged non-implementation of the 2025 Federal Government-ASUU agreement.
The industrial action, according to the union, took effect from midnight on August 18, 2026.
Confirming the development, the Chairman of ASUU-FUAZ, Comrade Danbauchi Ishaq Sanchi, said the decision to embark on the warning strike was reached after the university council failed to address the issues raised by the union despite the expiration of the ultimatum.
In a statement signed by Danbauchi, the union said: “After the expiration of the 21 days ultimatum issues by the Congress of the Academic Staff Union of University (ASUU), Federal University of Agriculture Zuru (FUAZ) branch to the University council over the non-implementation of the FGN-ASUU Signed Agreement, 2025.»
“Regrettably, as of today, 18th August, 2026, we are yet to receive any positive response of concrete action from the University Council towards addressing the issues raised in the agreement.”
The union stated that the warning strike would bring all academic activities to a halt throughout the period of the industrial action.
According to the statement: “Lectures and tutorials, examination and continues assessment, supervision of projects and thesis, as well as all Senate and Faculty Board meetings and all other academic-related enhancements are put on hold.”
Danbauchi expressed regret over the disruption the strike may cause but maintained that the action had become necessary.
He said: “We sincerely regret the inconveniences this action may cause, but we wish to emphasis that this decision was not taken lightly.
“It has become imperative in order to draw the Council’s urgent attention to the lingering unresolved issue that has continue to undermine the welfare of our members and the smooth running of academic programmes in this University.”
The union has not indicated whether it will escalate the industrial action if the issues remain unresolved after the expiration of the two-week warning strike.
