Troops of Operation Hadin Kai have discovered the remains of a detonated improvised explosive device (IED) along the Dikwa–Marte Main Supply Route (MSR) in Borno State, reinforcing concerns over the persistent threat posed by insurgents on key roads in the North-East.
According to military sources, the discovery was made on Monday, August 25, 2026, during a routine picketing and route-scanning patrol conducted by personnel of the 50 Task Force Battalion.
The troops reportedly located the remnants of the explosive device at about 10:30 a.m., hours after an explosion was heard along the route at approximately 7:20 p.m. on Sunday.
The IED was said to have been concealed on the carcass of an abandoned vehicle near a bridge along the Dikwa–Marte road before it detonated.
Following the discovery, troops immediately secured the area and carried out necessary safety measures to eliminate any further threat to military personnel and other road users.
Security sources noted that the incident underscores the continued use of improvised explosive devices by terrorist groups operating in Borno State. The explosives have frequently been deployed to target security forces, disrupt military operations and restrict movement along strategic supply routes.
Despite the incident, military authorities described the overall security situation across the Operation Hadin Kai theatre as calm but unpredictable. They also stated that troops remain in high spirits and continue to demonstrate satisfactory operational effectiveness.
Operation Hadin Kai has sustained aggressive route-clearance, surveillance and offensive operations across the North-East as part of efforts to deny terrorist groups freedom of movement and ensure the safety of critical supply corridors.
