First Lady of Nigeria, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, has called on Nigerians to deepen the culture of generosity, compassion and volunteerism as the world commemorates the 2026 International Day of Charity.
In a message issued to mark the global observance, the First Lady said the annual event serves as an opportunity to reflect on the importance of extending support to people in need and promoting a more caring and inclusive society.
According to her, charitable acts go beyond material donations, stressing that genuine kindness and compassion have the power to restore hope and positively transform lives.
“As the world marks International Day of Charity 2026, we are reminded of the power of kindness, compassion, and generosity in building a more caring and inclusive society,” she said.
The First Lady added that charity should be seen as a commitment to lifting others rather than simply giving.
“Charity is more than giving; it is about extending a helping hand, restoring hope, and supporting those in need. Every act of kindness, no matter how small, can make a meaningful difference in the life of another,” Tinubu stated.
She urged Nigerians to continue reaching out to the vulnerable, the less privileged and others facing hardship, noting that collective efforts would help address poverty and strengthen communities across the country.
“I encourage Nigerians to continue to embrace the spirit of giving and volunteerism, particularly towards the vulnerable and less privileged. Through our collective action, we can help reduce poverty, strengthen our communities, and ensure that no one is left behind,” she said.
The First Lady also extended her goodwill to Nigerians and the international community on the occasion, wishing everyone a fulfilling International Day of Charity.
“Happy International Day of Charity 2026,” she added.
