The Joint Task Force (North East), Operation HADIN KAI, has said its troops have neutralised 44 suspected terrorists and disrupted an improvised explosive device (IED) operation during coordinated offensives across Borno State and the Lake Chad region.
The military said the operations, carried out between October 26 and 28, were based on credible intelligence and surveillance aimed at denying terrorist groups freedom of movement and protecting communities in the North-East. use
According to a statement issued on Wednesday by the Acting Military Information Officer, Headquarters Joint Task Force (North East), Captain Mohammed Goni, troops first engaged suspected terrorists at different locations in Kukawa Local Government Area of Borno on October 26.
He said a battle damage assessment showed that 28 terrorists were neutralised, while six others sustained injuries during the encounter.
Goni added that on October 28, the Maritime Component of Operation HADIN KAI, operating from the Naval Base in Baga, launched another offensive against terrorist positions in the Lake Chad area.
The military said preliminary reports indicated that eight terrorists were neutralised, while 10 others suffered varying degrees of injuries.
In a separate operation, an air interdiction mission also disrupted a suspected terrorist team that was allegedly planting improvised explosive devices.
The military said eight suspected terrorists were neutralised, while their vehicle, motorcycles and materials for making IEDs were destroyed before the explosives could be deployed.
“These successes reflect the sustained pressure being exerted on terrorist networks through intelligence-led joint operations,” the statement said.
It added that Operation HADIN KAI remained committed to degrading the operational capability of terrorist groups, limiting their freedom of action and safeguarding communities across the North-East.
The military also appealed to residents to continue supporting security agencies with useful and timely information.
“The Theatre Command urges members of the public to continue providing credible information to security agencies in support of ongoing efforts to restore lasting peace and security across the theatre,” Goni said.
Operation HADIN KAI is the military’s ongoing counter-insurgency campaign against Boko Haram and ISWAP terrorists operating in the North-East, particularly in Borno State and the Lake Chad region.
The military has continued to combine ground, air and maritime operations with intelligence gathering to weaken terrorist networks and improve security in the region.
Security experts say sustained cooperation between the military and local communities remains critical to achieving lasting peace and preventing terrorist groups from regrouping.
