The Kano State Agro-Pastoral Development Project (KSADP) awarded a contract for the establishment of 200 milk collection centers across the state.
The Nigerian News Agency (NAN) reports that each milk collection center will have a borehole equipped with a solar pump and a 20,000-liter hanging tank, an input store and up to ‘to 10 forage banks in its vicinity.
This is contained in a statement released by the project’s communications specialist Ameen Yassar on Thursday in Kano.
According to Yassar, the contract is awarded to MM. Teamwork Global Associates, an indigenous company.
“In the same vein, the project signed a contract for design consultancy and supervision services for the construction of a veterinary reference laboratory in Kundila, in the Tarauni Local Government Area.
The contract will cover many tasks ranging from advisory services for staffing contractors, training, development and production of geographic and layout maps for various proposed infrastructure, among others.
“The consultants will also provide implementation and supervision services to ensure the execution of projects according to the agreed terms and conditions, manage expenditure control and provide materials certification,” he said.
KSADP project coordinator Ibrahim Muhammad said the project aimed to introduce a new dynamic in the local production of milk and dairy products.
According to him, the current process of milking and marketing dairy products in Kano is unhygienic and lacks basic technology.
“KSADP plans to build milk collection centers with modern facilities, providing a cold chain, which will lead to an increase in demand for dairy products, an increase in milk prices and, most importantly, will address the quality issues and milk hygiene, ” Muhammad said.
He said the veterinary reference laboratory was one of the project’s many initiatives aimed at promoting animal health, ensuring the safety of food of animal origin and generally ensuring public health.
NAN reports that KSADP is a favorite project of the Islamic Development Bank, Lives and Funds (LLF) and the Kano State government.
Its primary objective is to contribute to reducing poverty and strengthening the food and nutritional security of the State by developing agro-pastoral production systems. (NOPE)
