The Bauchi State Police Command says its men have arrested no fewer than 19 suspects for various criminal offences which include kidnapping, armed robbery, homicide among others across the state.
The Police Public Relations Officer, Bauchi State Command, Ahmed Wakil, a Superintendent of Police stated this in a statement made available to journalists on Friday.
According to him, the successes recorded was as a result of the entrenchment policing standards, including but not limited to manpower deployments, intelligence gathering and technologically driven methodologies, which led to series of operations that has recorded several successes across the state during the month under review.
He said that on the 29th August, 2021, detectives of the Command arrested Idi Abdullahi (25), Rabiu Sulaiman (28), Aliyu Malam alias Majo (20) and Hassan Bako (30) all of Maina Maji.
He added that the suspects conspired among themselves armed with dangerous weapons stormed the house of one Jibrin Aliyu and shot him dead, also stormed into the house of one Ibrahim Dai and Kidnapped his son, one Idi Jibrin to unknown destination where they demanded for a sum of N1.5 million as ransom.
Wakil further said that: “On 4th September, 2021 at about 3.00am, information received from a Good Samaritan led to the arrest of Nasir Gaddafi (30), Abdulrahman Mahmood (40), Kabiru Saleh (48) all of Birshin Fulani and Tsakani.
“They conspired among themselves armed with AK-47 rifles and other dangerous weapons, stormed the house of one Alhaji Dan’asabe Bayara where they shot one Danjuma Umar (53) to death.
“They robbed him of his valuables, Kidnapped his son to unknown destination, demanded and collected the sum of N800,000 as ransom.”
He added that a 27-year old man was also arrested for allegedly killing his girlfriend with whom he has two children.
According to him, the lady was found lying in a pool of blood at Sabon Kaura sub-urb of Bauchi metropolis and was rushed to the Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University Teaching Hospital, where she was confirmed dead.
“On 7th October, 2021 at about 4.45am, a joint patrol team in collaboration with the Peace and security committee while on visibility patrol sighted a young lady laying in a pool of blood with wounds on her head and blood gushing from her mouth at Sabon Kaura.
“The team evacuated the victim to the Abubakar Tafawa Balewa Teaching Hospital Bauchi, where a medical doctor certified her dead.
“During the course of investigation, one Hajara Amos (56) of Bayara village was identified as the deceased mother and also identified the deceased as Ruth Amos (28) of the same address.
“Consequently, investigation commenced in earnest where one Enoch Yohanna (27) of Gwallameji Doka was arrested. Upon interrogation, the suspect voluntarily confessed to have committed the crime.
“Further investigation revealed that Enoch Yohanna and the deceased (Ruth Amos) were in a romantic relationship and blessed with 2 children.
“It was further revealed that on the date of the incident Enoch, sighted the deceased coming out of a compound and out of jealousy, he challenged her which led to an argument between them. In the process, he pushed her, she fell and hit her head on the ground,” he said.
The Police Spokesman disclosed that a team of policemen in collaboration with a vigilante group arrested one Abdulhamid Isah (25) of Kaura Kafai Toro L.G.A who conspired with others now at large, armed with Ak-47 rifles and other dangerous weapons, stormed the house of one Sule Ori and kidnapped his son to unknown destination, demanded and collected the sum of N2 million as ransom.
He said that during the course of investigation the suspect confessed to the crime.
Other suspects, Wakil further said, are Fidelis Mathew (36) of Angwan kusu, John Besse (37) of Yelwa kagadama, Amos Haruna (20) of Yelwa kagadama, who were arrested on 18th September, 2021 at about 12.30pm, by Policemen in collaboration with members of peace and security committee while on routine stop and search operation.
According to him, “The suspects who specialized in motorcycles snatching, conspired among themselves attacked one Ali Usman (25) at kakandam axis village, lynched the victim and made away with his boxer motorcycle. Upon interrogation, the suspects confessed to the crime.”
Wakil said that all the suspects are being profiled while investigations are ongoing after which, all of them will be charged to court for prosecution.
He assured the people of Bauchi of the Command’s endless and tireless commitment towards the security of lives and properties in the state.
The PPRO said that “the Commissioner of Police Bauchi State Command, Sylvester Alabi, urged citizens to continue being vigilant and security conscious and also re-iterated that there will be no hiding place for criminals in the state as the Command is ever ready to flush out all forms of criminality bothering our domain.”
