Borno govt resettles Auno community IDPs, constructs another 100 Housing Units, vocational training centre

Borno State Government has resettled the Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) from Auno Community displaced since April 2020 following series of attacks by Boko Haram Insurgents. 

Engineer Mustapha Gubio, commissioner, Ministry of Reconstruction, Rehabilitation and Resettlement (RRR), accompanied by Hon. Mairo Mandara, special adviser and coordinator, Humanitarian Services,  Hajiya Yabawa Kolo, chairperson, BOSEMA and Hon. Babazanna Abdulkarim, state coordinator MCRP, was in Auno on Tuesday to resettle the IDPs.

It would be recalled that on Feb. 9, 2020, Auno community faced series of Boko Haram attacks which led to the death of over 80 persons, destruction of houses and property worth millions of naira.

The incident compelled the State Governor, Babagana Umara Zulum  to visit the scene of attack and assured the victims of prompt attention.

Sequel to his promises, Governor Zulum during his visit to the Bank of Industry headquarters in Abuja few months ago,  accompanied by Dr Mairo Mandara, secured the funding of rebuilding the destroyed buildings and construction of new housing units for the Auno community.

Subsequently, Governor Zulum directed the State Ministry of Reconstruction,  Rehabilitation and Resettlement (RRR) to swing into action to rebuild and resettle the IDPs.

The Commissioner, Engr Gubio has successfully completed the reconstruction and building of the said housing units and commenced the resettlement process  today.

Hon. Mandara, while presenting the allocation letters  to the individual beneficiaries of the newly constructed houses, said skills aquisition programme would also be provided for the women and  youths.

He urged would-be beneficiaries to be self reliant and focused on their farming activities to better their livelihoods as well live a normal life.

Engr Gubio and the team also proceeded to inspect an ongoing construction of a Vocational Training Center  for  the construction of Soft Skills  Acquisition Centre supported by Alhaji Muhammadu Indimi Foundation in Auno community along Maiduguri-Damaturu Road near Njimtilo community and BOSU.

The  vocational training center project is said to be almost  at completion stage of 95 per cent which consists of different vocational training, skills aquisition in building construction and other households skills, basically for females.
